IGGM Warns of Major CoD MW4 DMZ Mechanics and Changes before You Play Matchmaking, Healing, and More

Understanding the matchmaking system

DMZ is an extraction-based survival mode played on specific maps. Since matchmaking occurs before every round, you need to understand the system to handle potential opponents effectively.

Each DMZ match accommodates up to 20 squads (60 players). All players spawn onto the map simultaneously; there is no staggered start based on squad size.

If you choose to play in a squad, the limit is three players (though this can increase to four if you recruit another player during the match). If you prefer to play solo, you can disable the squad fill feature during matchmaking.

Note that disabling this feature doesn’t guarantee a match consisting solely of solo players; the system simply attempts to match players with similar squad sizes, though it cannot guarantee a perfect match every time.

To avoid the risk of being overwhelmed by enemy squads, you should be prepared for the possibility of joining forces with other teams.

Additionally, it is wise to buy CoD MW4 bot lobbies to practice your gunplay beforehand, so you don’t become a liability to yourself or your future teammates.

Parachutes are not available by default

DMZ’s Hajin map features significant verticality. Whether you are launching a surprise attack or making a quick escape, using a parachute is a highly effective strategy.

Unfortunately, Modern Warfare 4 DMZ has removed the automatic parachute loadout. You must locate parachutes yourself during the match, and most have limited uses. While infinite-use parachutes do exist, their spawn rate is extremely low.

CoD MW4 parachutes are not available by default

While this change might seem frustrating at first glance, IGGM believes it actually enhances the game’s realism; after all, parachutes are a scarce resource in real-world warfare.

Moreover, this limitation forces you to devise new combat and extraction strategies. Although it adds complexity, it significantly boosts the game’s fun factor and replayability.

Changes to Tactical Sprint

As a classic movement mechanic in Call of Duty series, Tactical Sprint is activated differently across various titles, so it is essential to familiarize yourself with the latest changes.

In CoD MW4 DMZ, Tactical Sprint is enabled by default, but each use consumes a portion of your stamina. Once your stamina is depleted, you revert to a standard sprint unless you use specific items to restore or extend your stamina.

Therefore, whether you want to use Tactical Sprint for longer periods or have other specific needs, make sure to scavenge for relevant supplies while exploring, rather than focusing solely on eliminating enemies.

How does the armor mechanic work?

Although your quick armor slots are automatically populated with plates at the start of a DMZ match, carrying extra armor requires utilizing Operator traits that increase armor capacity or equipping Armor Box Field Upgrade.

Armor found during combat belongs to different categories of plate carriers; these offer superior protection or other defensive buffs, maximizing the thrill of the hunt.

If you plan to eliminate other players to steal their superior armor, it is wise to use MW4 redeem codes beforehand to level up your character and weapons in other matches, ensuring you aren’t defeated due to a lack of combat power.

All-new healing and revive system

In CoD MW4 DMZ, you are equipped with a tourniquet by default upon entering a match; using it allows you to self-revive when downed. However, doing so reduces your maximum health from 150 to 100 points.

To overcome this limitation, you must acquire and use a medical kit, which, conveniently, also makes the tourniquet available for use again. In addition to tourniquets, DMZ allows you to use other healing consumables to temporarily boost your health, though only medical kits can restore you to full health.

Free loadout mechanic returns

While entering a match with a full kit of gear increases your chances of success, the losses are far more severe if you are killed by other players.

If you prefer to avoid that risk, you can simply use the free loadout provided in Modern Warfare 4 DMZ; if you successfully exfiltrate with it, you get to keep any loot you acquired.

Even if you are ambushed and lose most of your loot before exfiltrating, the impact is limited to that specific match, the gear you have accumulated over time remains safe.

Independent weapon unlock system

While Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 multiplayer and Warzone share weapon level and attachment unlock progress, weapon unlocks in DMZ mode operate independently.

To unlock a specific weapon in this mode, you must find its corresponding weapon manual during a match and successfully exfiltrate with it. Afterward, you can unlock the weapon for use in any DMZ match by consuming in-game currency.

As for weapons scavenged during combat, you only have permission to modify them rather than fully owning them. Furthermore, these scavenged weapons are limited to five attachment slots, whereas weapons you have fully unlocked allow for eight slots.

Make full use of FOB

FOB stands for Forward Operating Base. Think of it as your temporary headquarters in MW4 DMZ, where you manage your Operators and gear.

Unlike the original DMZ mode, MW4 FOB features a persistent stash, allowing you to keep gear or crafting materials even after a match ends.

More importantly, IGGM recommends expanding your FOB as you progress through the game. Upgrading internal facilities, such as vendor stations, the 3D printer, or the gunsmith, will unlock convenient new features.

These are the key mechanics and tips to keep in mind before diving into DMZ experience. While they can’t guarantee you’ll win every battle, they can certainly boost your chances of a successful extraction!
